Billye Brashear Obituary

Billye Ruth (Lucas) Brashear was born the oldest daughter to the marital union of the late Arlee Lucas and the late Lester Bert (Sibley) Lucas on August 13, 1939 in Kilgore, Texas.

At a young age, she dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and attended Post Oak C.M.E. Church in Longview, Texas. After graduating from Fredonia High School in 1957, she set out to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at Prairie View A&M College, now Prairie View A&M University. On December 23, 1960, she married her college sweetheart, Charles Brashear of Dallas, Texas. The newly married couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where they raised their three daughters Dayner, Ava, and Edra. They remained united in holy matrimony for 46 years until Charles' heavenly transition in 2003.

As a homemaker, Billye‘s volunteer work included PTA president at E.C. Meservey and Mary Harmon Weeks Elementary Schools. As a community organizer for the Vineyard Garden Neighborhood Association in the 1970's, she organized the implementation of the neighborhood cleanups, the set up of the subdivision stone markers, and the construction of a neighborhood park. With her family, she attended Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served as a stewardess and Sunday School teacher. At St. James Paseo United Methodist Church, she served as the choir member officer and co-chaired alongside her husband, Charles, on the Fishes and Loaves Pantry Committee.

Billye retired from a successful career as a Home Improvement Sales Associate from Sears and Roebuck, and as a Special Education Paraprofessional for the Hickman School District in Kansas City, Missouri.

An excellent cook, Billye loved to entertain family and friends on holidays and special occasions. She was a devoted wife and a source of supportive energy for her entire family. Among many hobbies and interests, she delighted in photography, basketball, and current events. Billye will be forever remembered for her dedication, devotion, and involvement in family, church, and community.
The heavenly Father called Billye to eternal rest on Friday, November 29, 2019. Those left to cherish precious memories and continue her legacy include her three daughters: Dayner Brashear, Ava Howard (Alex), and Edra Brashear; grandsons, Austin Howard and Aaron Howard (Jessia); great-grandsons, Jase Howard and Jackson Howard; brother, Charlie Lucas (Billie); sister-in-law, Sandra Lucas (wife of her late brother, Robert Lucas); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services in Kansas City, Missouri, have been entrusted to Watkins Heritage Chapel.
