Esther Lee Wright Fuqua was born on December 3, 1926, in Garland, Texas to the late Delmar and Ruby Wright. Surrounded by her loving family, she transitioned to eternity with her Lord on June 16, 2018, in Rowlett, Texas.
She united in holy matrimony to the late Melvin Lockett, Sr. To their union, three children were born. After his death, she married the late James Fuqua, Jr. To their union, five children were born.
At an early age, Esther united with Davis Chapel Church of God in Christ. In the late 40's, she united with Zion Baptist Church in Rowlett, Texas, where she served as President of the choir and the advisor for over 30 years. Esther also served as President of the Deaconess Board and Culinary Committee.
Esther was someone very special who always had a smile. Affectionately regarded as "Mom", "Mrs. Esther", "Mrs. Fuqua" and "Big Mama", Esther loved cooking and making sure everyone was fed. All were welcome at her table, as she had a loving and nurturing heart. There was always food in the home so no one would be hungry, family or friends. She delightfully served as the head cook for East Side Elementary School and also a cook for Bourn Avenue High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Ruby Wright; husband, Melvin Lockett, Sr.; husband, James Fuqua Jr.; brothers: Herman Goodson, Charlie Wright, Willie Wright, Emmit Wright, and Alvis Wright; daughters, Virginia Nell Wallace and Deloris Fuqua; son, Melvin Lockett Jr.; and granddaughter, Demetria Chester.
Those left to cherish great memories include her daughters: Laverne Harrell of Rowlett, Texas, Ruby Fuqua of Rowlett, Texas, Imogene Favors of Mesquite, Texas, Mary Whitaker of Dallas, Texas, and Brazell Heard of Christiansburg, Virginia; sister-in-law, Doretha Fields Wright; daughter-in-law, Tillie Lockett; son-in-law, Charles Wallace; adopted daughter-in-Christ, Margarett Hall; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
