Florine Lackey was born on September 9, 1926, in New Albany, Mississippi, to John Brook Sloan and Estelle Strong. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord on November 27, 2018, in Dallas, Texas, at age 92.
Florine accepted Christ at age 13 and was baptized in Mississippi. She received her formal education in Cairo, Illinois, and enjoyed a longtime career as a laundry attendant at Ziker Cleaners. After 23 years, Florine retired.
She married Tecornnie Lackey and the two remained united until his transition.
Florine united with Pilgrim Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana, and served for 67 years (1947-2013) in various ministries, including the Gospel Chorus, usher board, and kitchen committee. In 2013, she relocated to Dallas, Texas, and united with Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church under the leadership of her grandson, Pastor Robert W. Townsend.
Florine was predeceased by her parents; siblings: Magalene Love, Thomas Ridley, Katherine Waldrop, Esther Ridley, Tassie Cole, and Mary Mitchell; and husband. Those left to cherish precious memories include her daughters, Brenda Perkins and Beverly Bush; grandchildren: Marcella Bush, Pastor Robert Townsend and his wife, Karen, Renardo Brown, Laqutha Brown, Derrick Brown, and Jamie Johnson; great-grandchildren: Natalie, Morgan, Iesha, Trinity, Jada, Jayla, Keroria, Queshawn, Donvon, Jr, and Jaden; great-great-grandchildren, London; sister, Demetrie Jackson; brother, Earl Ridley and his wife, Gwen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at 11:00 am Friday, December 7, 2018, at Pilgrim Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana.
