Georgette Larcia Blacklock Collins was born on August 28, 1965, in Dallas, Texas, to Willie Jesse Blacklock and Jestine Edna Turner. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2019, in Austin, Texas.
Georgette attended St. Peter Academy and graduated from Bishop Dunn High School. She continued her education at East Texas State College and Dallas County Community Colleges. She worked in various capacities but mainly enjoyed a career as a paralegal for various law firms. At the time of her transition, she was employed at the Texas Department of Licensing Regulations in Austin, Texas.
As a young child, Georgette professed her acceptance of Christ at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James McGlover, Sr. There, she served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, and was a member of the G.A. Girls. She later joined Inspiring Body of Christ under the leadership of Pastor Rickie Rush. In January of 2019, she relocated to Austin, Texas, to enjoy life with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. She joined Summit Worship Center where she served with the Hospitality Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Eric Moore. Georgette loved to praise God.
Among many hobbies, Georgette delighted in cooking, hosting gatherings, and catering. She also enjoyed flowers and music of various genres. A selfless, outgoing, competitive, creative, inspiring, and helpful soul, Georgette had a remarkable optimism and encouraging word for all who crossed her path. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her father; several aunts and uncles; her sister, Vanessa Raye Shelby; and her special friend, Deborah Pritchett. Those left to cherish precious memories of her sweet spirit include her daughter, Tonette Mitchell (Hodges II); grandson, Hodges Mitchell III; mother, Jestine Garrett; sister, Lecesta Caro (Frank); sister, Elizabeth Ann Abrams; special siblings: Patricia Elaine Mims, James Alvin McGlover, Ralph Anderson (Patsy), and Ronnie Shaw (Veda); special grandchildren: Heaven McCoy, Carter Young, Amaree Seay, and Houston McClain; nieces: Faith Caro, Taraellyn Abrams, Chaneriau Adams, and Daneika Adams; nephews: Cory Turner, Jason Turner, Gary Shelby, Jr., and Jestin Patton; special great-nieces and nephews: Tony Davis, Jr., KeKe, NyNy, Eli, and YaYa; former spouse and friend, David Collins; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
We, the family, have received such an outpouring of support in the recent days, since moms passing. Many have asked where memorials or donations can be sent, as well.
In honor of Georgette’s passion for her grandson's education, in addition to flowers, cards, etc, memorials may be given directly to her children, Tonette and Hodges. Feel free to reach out them for more information.
