James Bowers Obituary

James Leroy Bowers, the son of Jacob Angus Bowers and Callie Lenora Blaylock Bowers, was born on January 11, 1940, in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Jim, as he was affectionately regarded, was a character and always had a story to tell. He attended Jimtown High School in Elkhart, Indiana, and graduated in the Class of 1962. Everyone loved Jim. He was the president of his freshman, sophomore, and junior classes. He lettered in track, football, and baseball; as a result, Jim visited Gettysburg, Washington D.C., New York City, Cooperstown for the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and Niagara Falls. He enjoyed it all.

Jim enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. He was deployed to Vietnam and served tours in Germany. He proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged.

He married Vera Johnson-Williams on April 9, 1983. Vera was the love of his life, and Jim was the love of Vera’s. Vera had boundaries when it came to "her Jim"; she was protective of him as he was of her. Their love and respect for each other was evident to everyone who knew them. Praying together was one of their secret weapons. As a blended family, they and their children came together as one loving family.

Jim was employed with G2 Secure Staff for 14 years and served other airlines out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for over 26 years. He took his job very seriously and was very patient and kind with the passengers. An exemplary leader, he advised his crew how to carefully handle those with special needs. Jim's coworkers looked up to him with high regard and enjoyed working with him. They all considered Jim as family. Jim was a great asset to G2 Secure Staff.

A good husband of 36 wonderful years and a remarkable father, our Jim passed from this world into the loving arms of our Lord on September 20, 2019, with his devoted wife at his side. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Doris Darlene Bowers of Elkhart, Indiana, and Caffy Ruth Korzinski of Garland, Texas. Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife, Vera Lee Bowers of Richardson, Texas; children: James "Jimmy" Andrew Bowers of Grapevine, Texas, John Walter Bowers of Miami, Florida, Janet Elizabeth Mahon of Oak Grove, Kentucky, Bobby Williams (Tammy) of Greenville, Texas, and Terrence Williams (Angie) of Mesquite, Texas; two granddaughters; two grandsons; one goddaughter; siblings: Sue Escobedo (Al) of Irving, Texas, Joseph Andrew Bowers (Leona) of Elmo, Texas, and Jack Henry Bowers (Lorene) of Elkhart, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
