Johnny Adams Obituary

Johnny Adele Adams was born on August 1, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Edmond and Elizabeth "Betty" Adams. Surrounded by family, he transitioned on June 6, 2019, in Garland, Texas, at age 64.

Johnny attended Henrietta School District and graduated from high school. He was an elite athlete all through high school. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and enjoyed a career as a journeyman for more than 40 years. 

He was a member of the Woodlawn Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Roy Dixon in San Diego, California. He was very active in his community and church.

Johnny was honored by the City of Decatur (Texas) for his act of heroism for saving a man from a burning vehicle. He received the Presidential Award from President Barack Obama, the United States Congress, the United States Senate, the United States House of Representatives, and the San Diego City Council for his many hours of community service. 

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Michele Adams; and a grandson, Mark Proby, Jr. Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife, Jessica Scott-Adams of California; son: Edmond Jerome Adams of Midland, Texas, Jordan Paul Adams of Decatur, Texas, and Joshua Crabtree (Lindsey) of Hubert, North Carolina; daughters: Chiquita Bernard-Ross (Terry, Sr.) of Amarillo, Texas, Patience Williams of Garland, Texas, and JanJura Robins (Selwyn) of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Paula Elaine Sperland of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren: Kenyon and Marcel Adams, Jamarian and Jyrus Ross, Justin Cannon and Landry Peter Crabtree, Jonathan Williams (Christina), Lechia Williams, Samantha Moore, and Deaja Gowans; his dearest friend and caregiver, Christina Quirk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Affectionately regarded as "Papa John" by his grandchildren, Johnny will be dearly missed by all who knew an loved him.
