Lena Buffington Obituary

Lena Mae Gunels Buffington was born on December 25, 1940, in Winkler, Texas. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord on March 8, 2019, in McKinney, Texas.  

Lena graduated from Pelham High School. She went on to enjoy a longtime career in cafeteria management with Carrollton/Farmers Branch Independent School District. After 30 years of committed service, she retired. 

Lena married the love of her life, Marvin, on January 27, 1968. To their union, a beautiful baby girl was welcomed and loved. The two remained united for 42 years until Marvin's transition.

Upon moving to Dallas, Lena joined Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas. She later joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. She remained a dedicated member for 44 years until her health declined.

Among many hobbies, Lena enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and sports. She was an avid fan of Texas professional sports teams which included the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks. 

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Lou Jeanette Gunels; brothers: David Gunels, J.D. Gunels, Andrew Gunels, and Billy Lee Gunels; sisters: Isabel Bruton, Mattie Robinson, Mae Lee Williams, Alma Thompson, and Betty Sue Gunels. Those left to cherish precious memories include her daughter, Cassandra (Garry); grandson, Ilias; sister, Joyce; brother, Willie; and a host of other relatives and friends.
