Lennis "Whistle" Hailey, Jr. Obituary

Lennis Hailey, Jr. was born on May 2, 1954, in Corsicana, Texas. He transitioned to eternity on December 16,2019, in Dallas, Texas.

Affectionately regarded as “Whistle”, Lennis graduated from L.V. Berkner High School in 1972. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until he was honorably discharged. Whistle then traveled around living a short time in Washington D.C., New York, and California before deciding that Texas was home.

Whistle professed his faith in Christ at an early age, uniting with True Purpose Baptist Church. He and his entire family later became members of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park. He later united with Prestoncrest Church of Christ.

Whistle believed in family over everything, usually the one responsible for family dinners. No matter what day of the week it was, he enjoyed cooking and telling others how they could improve their cooking. He often told others their dishes tasted like they rushed the preparation and cooking process.

Whistle was preceded in death by his parents, Lennis, Sr. and Ruby Lee Ross; his grandparents, Louis, Sr. and Susanna; his sister, Betty Hailey Blaylock; and his brother-in-law, Joe Blaylock.

Those left to cherish the memories include his sisters: Ruby, Mary( Darrin), and Deborah; brothers: Kenneth ( Debra), Charles, Freddie, and Leroy (Cheryl); nieces: Wendy Quell, Candice, Michelle, Leta, Kimberly, Chandra, Ramona, Carmen, Jaila, Jayda, Ashari, Kiersten, Arianna, and Fallon; nephews: Ben, Steven, Charles, Jr., Kendall, Tyler, Chancellor, Mark, Kyle, Antoine, Steven, Jr., Steele, and Paxton; aunts: Lurlee, Vertie Mae, Sue , and Lois (James); uncle, Larry (Mary); his sister/cousin who cared for him until the very end, Vertie Taylor who was affectionately known as Tolue by everyone; godchildren: Jerome, Tyrone, Shantelle, Trey, and Michael; special aunt, Faye Johnson; and a host of family and friends.
