Marvin J. Hughes El was born on October 18, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He passed away on June 7, 2018, in Dallas, Texas, at age 72.
A graduate of Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Marvin went on to attend Lincoln Tech where he was a track and field athlete. In August of 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. In July of 1969, he was honorably discharged. He later earned his degree in Accounting from Robert Morris University. Marvin enjoyed a career in insurance and retired from The Hartford after several years of service.
Among many hobbies, Marvin enjoyed Chess, reading, and cooking. He delighted in researching healthy living and healing from a holistic approach. He also enjoyed football and basketball. Marvin was an avid Steelers and Celtics fan.
Adventurous, loyal, steadfast, loving, and considerate, Marvin J. Hughes El will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his father, Oscar Hughes, and brother, Richard Donald Gittings. Those left to cherish precious memories include his mother, Dolores Alexander; sister, Denise Toliver and her husband, Kevin; nephew, William Harris Toliver; niece, Lorraine Williams; niece, Mackenzie Nicole Toliver; aunts: Pauline Goode, Jacqueline Richardson, and Vivian Shelton; uncle, Darrell Hughes; and a host of other relatives and friends.
