Ruby Derrick Obituary

Ruby Jewel Hall-Derrick was born to Claudia B. Mills and Eddie Hall, Jr. on December 29, 1944, in Tatum, Texas. She passed away on June 9, 2018, in Wylie, Texas.

Ruby attended Rockwall High School in Rockwall, Texas. She worked at a hat factory in Garland, Texas, for many years. Before retiring, she worked as a caregiver and cook at a nursing home.

Ruby accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She was in a gospel choir at church, and she was a missionary for the Church of God in Christ in Caddo Mills, Texas. Upon moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1987, she continued as a missionary for Church of God in Christ.

Ruby was a loving, caring, and giving mother who helped anyone in need. She was famous for cooking her sweet potato pies for Minyard’s food store in Garland, Texas. Among many hobbies, Ruby enjoyed bingo, reading, sewing, painting, and cooking. She also enjoyed watching Family Feud. Ruby will be truly missed by all who knew her and her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Claudia B. Mills; father, Eddie Hall, Jr.; sister, Joyce Faye Hall; brothers: Dennis Hall, William Mills, and Eddie Mills; daughters, Cathleen Lou Crow and Rita Hall; and granddaughter, Carolyn Mills. Those left to cherish precious memories include her children: Mary K. English of Garland, Texas, Clarence Hall, Jr. of Pleasant Grove, Texas, Evelyn Joyce Grun and husband, Loren Grun, of Wylie, Texas, Margie Crow and Richard Crow of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Ann English of Dallas, Texas, Fannie Hall of Dallas, Texas, Patricia Mills of Dallas, Texas, Rosie Jones of Longview, Texas, Sara Mills of Dallas, Texas, Cherry Hall of Lancaster, Texas, and Margaret Hall Mills and spouse, David Mills, of Sulphur Springs, Texas; brothers: Marvin Mills of Dallas, Texas, Willie Mills of Garland, Texas, Lee Hall, Jr. of Denver, Colorado, Will Hall, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas, Joseph Mills of Palestine, Texas, Freddie Mills of Longview, Texas, and Jimmy Hall of Mesquite, Texas; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, loving relatives, and dear friends.
