Thomas Ray Lurks was born on July 9, 1962, in Dallas, Texas. Surrounded by family, he transitioned to eternity with his Lord on February 11, 2018, in Garland, Texas, at age 55.
Thomas attended Wilmer Hutchins High School. He enjoyed a career as a truck driver for more than 20 years. Prior to driving trucks, Thomas enjoyed a career in management at Eckerd's Drug Store for several years.
Affectionately regarded as "PawPaw" by his grandchildren, Thomas was a member of Greater El Bethel Church of God in Christ in Garland where he served as a deacon under the leadership of Superintendent Anthony McCrary, Sr.
Among many hobbies and interests, Thomas enjoyed watching boxing and sports of all kinds. He also enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He had the best-manicured yard on the block. Thomas's greatest delight was fishing and reading his Bible.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Cephus, Sr. and Bernice Lurks, and brother, Larry Lurks. Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife, Iris; children: Mark Evans and his wife, Lori, Glynn Roberts, and Justice Bedell and her husband, Ryan; grandchildren: Jennessa Hoppert, Grant Roberts, Jentry Hoppert, Graham Roberts, and Griffin Roberts; siblings: Cephus Lurks, Jr. and his wife, Tina, Beverly Lee, and Aric Lurks and his wife, Juanita; special niece, Jacqueline Morrison; special friend, Wendell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
