Abel Ornelas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. Born on December 1, 1938, in El Paso, Texas, Abel was the embodiment of a life well-lived, touching everyone he met with his sincerity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Abel proudly served his country as a United States Marine, exemplifying honor, courage, and commitment.
Abel was a devoted husband to his wife, Ronda, with whom he shared 14 wonderful years of marriage after their wedding on November 27, 2010. Their bond was a testament to enduring love, partnership, and friendship. He was a hard worker and steadfast provider who approached life with dedication and resilience, ensuring that his family always had what they needed.
Abel’s love for life was evident in his passions. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he was never shy about showing his enthusiasm, cheering them on with unyielding loyalty. His love for fast cars matched his vibrant spirit; he delighted in conversations about cars, engines and horsepower. These simple joys reflected his ability to find connection and camaraderie in every interaction.
Known for his sharp wit and warm humor, Abel’s laughter could light up any room. He was a funny, loving, and altruistic man who cared deeply for others. His charitable heart knew no bounds, as he always found ways to support those in need, often putting others before himself. Abel was sincerely interested in the lives of those around him, making everyone feel valued and understood.
Abel’s family was his greatest pride and joy. He was a father to Denise Ornelas (Edward Mendoza), Jena Gonzales (Jason Gonzales), Dena Ornelas, and Joanna Duran; stepfather to Daniel Messersmith (Crystal Messersmith) and Catherine Hill. As a grandfather, he was the best, adored by Vanessa, Josh, Cameron, Jenna, Micah, Jessica, Christian, Maya, Sophie, Evelyn, Leo, Eli, Faith, Jasmine, Dillon, Thomas, Tyler, and his three great-grandchildren. Abel’s love extended to his surviving siblings, Ralph Ornelas and Esther McVay, as well as his nieces, Becky Condra and Margo Ornelas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Ornelas, and his grandson, Adrian Ornelas. Though their absence was deeply felt, Abel carried their memories with him and found solace in the love of his family.
Abel leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, acceptance, and kindness. He welcomed everyone into his life with open arms, never allowing prejudice or differences to cloud his heart. His legacy of love will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. Abel taught his family the true meaning of connection and belonging, a gift that will be cherished forever.
As we honor the life of Abel Ornelas, we carry his lessons in our hearts. His boundless love and generosity knew no boundaries, and he leaves behind a family and community eternally grateful for his presence. Though we will miss him dearly, his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
May God bless you, Abel. You will live in our hearts forever.
