Addie Bates was born on July 27, 1936. Although Addie battled many ailments throughout the years, she remained faithful and strong until the Lord called her home on April 15, 2026.
She fell in love with Curtis Bates, and they were united in holy matrimony on December 5, 1953. To this union, three daughters were born: Karen, Lisa, and Diann. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
Addie and Curtis faithfully served as Deacon and Deaconess at Shiloh Baptist Church, where their commitment to God and their community was evident to all who knew them. Addie later became a faithful member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, where she continued to grow in her faith and remained devoted in service.
On April 28, 1968, Addie experienced the loss of her beloved husband. Through her strength and abiding faith, she pressed forward and later returned to school to pursue her passion for education. She became a teacher specializing in early childhood development and was a guiding light for many young lives through her patience, wisdom, and care.
Addie was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; her sister, Ruby; her brother, James; her mother, Ethel; her sister, Carolyn; and her daughter, Karen.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her loving daughters, Lisa and Diann; her four grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom will forever hold her in their hearts.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant...
Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
— Matthew 25:23
