Allen Heckard, Sr. Obituary

Allen Heckard, Sr., a man of unwavering courage and dedication, passed away on October 23, 2023, in the comfort of his home. He was born on April 3, 1950, in Quentin, Mississippi, and departed this world to be with the Lord after a life filled with selfless service, heroism, and love.

After graduating from Franklin Parish High School in 1968, Allen answered the call of duty, enlisting in the Army in 1969. He exhibited extraordinary bravery during his service, earning the esteemed Purple Heart for his sacrifices in combat during the Vietnam War. His military journey came to an honorable close in 1971.

Following his service in the armed forces, Allen embarked on a new path as a fireman with Dallas Fire and Rescue. For 28 dedicated years, he bravely protected his community and saved lives, leaving an indelible mark on those he served.

In 1972, he exchanged vows with his beloved Irma, and their love blossomed over the years, celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary on April 15, 2023. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.

Allen was not just a hero in uniform but also a hero in his everyday life. His dedication to his family was unparalleled. He was a loving father to his children and godchild - Tonya Coulberson (Delany), Allen Heckard, Jr. (Monica), Danyeal Wright (Onterio), and Ryan Fewell. He was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren - Brittany Heckard, Ashley Heckard, Allen J. Heckard (Trey), and Aaliyah Heckard. His legacy of love and selflessness will continue to guide them in their journeys.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Allen is survived by his siblings - Zelma Nunn (James), Lillie Darby (Joseph), Patricia Okonkwo (Ferdinand), and Jessie Ray Heckard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. His warm smile and caring spirit endeared him to many, including his loved ones, relatives, church family, and a wide circle of friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Heckard and Lillie Keys Heckard; his siblings - Elijah "Man" Heckard, Jr., Howard Lee Heckard, Laura Thomas, and Ada Rodgers; and his grandson, Jaylen Michale Heckard. While he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
