Amos Gantt, Jr. was the eighth child born to Lillian Randel and Amos Gantt, Sr. on July 28, 1961, in McNeil, Arkansas. He transitioned to eternity with his Lord on January 27, 2025, in Carrollton, Texas.
Amos attended McNeil Elementary and McNeil High School, graduating in 1979. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 20 years, retiring as a Petty Officer First Class in 1999. Following his military service, Amos joined the Dallas Police Department, where he worked for 19 years and eventually became a Youth Detective. During this time, Amos earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Business Management and a Master’s degree in Psychology. Most recently, he worked in security at the Hope Center.
Amos accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at St. Matthews Methodist Church. He remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life.
In 2006, Amos married Shawn Harris, creating a blended family of five children. Amos loved his family dearly.
Amos was a God-fearing man, often described as a gentle giant. He dedicated over 50 years of his life to serving both his country and his community. As an active member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Amos served as a Deacon and the head of the Safety Security Team (SST). His compassion for his family, friends, and life was unparalleled. He was a great leader, educator, mentor, and source of positive reinforcement to all those who encountered him.
A true outdoorsman, Amos enjoyed hunting, camping, and finding peace in nature. Above all, he was a devoted family man who cherished the smallest moments spent with his children and grandchildren.
Amos was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sisters, Gloria and Lisa. Those left to cherish lasting memories include his wife, Shawn Gantt; his children, Christina, Roslyn, Jasalynn, Amber, and Amos III; his grandchildren, Dominic, Torrence, Elijah, Christian, Kaiden, Ryder, Damon, Amari, Avery, and Moses; his siblings, Willie Paul, Barbara, Mary Ann, Thelma, and Carolyn; as well as a host of family and friends.
