Annie Ruth Robertson was born August 18, 1926, in Calvert, Texas. She was the sixth of seven children. Her parents, Ennis and Ruby (Price) Scott, as well as her six siblings, preceded her in death. Annie Ruth spent her childhood and early adult years in Calvert. She graduated from Calvert Colored High School.
On November 8, 1945, she and Freddie Lee Robertson were united in holy matrimony. They were married 62 years. To this union five children were born: Freddie Ruth Roberson (Tally), Mary E. Bowens, Donald Robertson (Sharon), Anthony (Tony) Robertson, and Kimberly McKinney (Dennis). In addition, Freddie & Annie Ruth have 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 14 great, great grandchildren.
The young couple moved to Dallas in 1945 to seek better employment opportunities. The family lived in the historic community known as Ellum Thicket which was located near Love Field. They attended worship at Garth Chapel AME Church, and later St. Paul Methodist Church. In April 1955 the Robertsons moved to Hamilton Park. Shortly after, they began attending worship services and Sunday School in homes within the newly established community. Some of the persons who hosted these church events were Mrs. Eloise Valley, Mrs. Wilhelmina Rettig and Mrs. Vivian T. Starks. As the number of worship attendees grew, services were held at the Hamilton Park School.
Hamilton Park Methodist Church (later Hamilton Park United Methodist Church) was established in 1957 and Mrs. Annie Ruth Robertson was among the eleven persons who are charter members. In a leadership capacity, she has served as a trustee. The first ministries she joined were the communion board and Chancel Choir. She continued serving on them until failing health prevented her participation. As the years passed, Annie Ruth became active in other ministries. She was a strong and faithful supporter of Status and Role of Women (SROW) and was affectionately known as their Golden Girl. She was among the first to be asked to become a member of a newly established Greeters ministry and was very active with the Mature Adults ministry.
Annie Ruth loved to travel and make ceramic figures. She liked to listen to music and dance. And was a member of the Hamiltonettes Social & Charity Club. Cooking was also a favorite pastime. For many years she served as a cook for Vacation Bible School. She liked canning foods, especially fruits. But her passion was cooking for neighbors, friends and family. Annie Ruth was a beautiful, proud, loving, and kind Christian woman whose family was always a priority. Doting on her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren gave her joy.
Precious memories of the beautiful life of Mrs. Annie Ruth Robertson will be shared by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her passing a loving and caring family as well as numerous friends and neighbors who knew, loved and respected her.
