Aqua Jamaal Umoren was born at 1 a.m. on June 14, 1980, in Los Angeles, California. Leaving a legacy of love, courage, and service, he transitioned to eternity on March 21, 2026, in Dallas, Texas.
Affectionately regarded as "Water Boy", "Aqua Man", and "H2O", Aqua lived a life defined not by titles but by the lives he touched. Rooted in faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to serve, Aqua became a pillar in the Dallas community—leading with both strength and compassion.
Aqua graduated from Hazen High School, Class of 1998, in Renton, Washington, where he ran track and earned an athletic scholarship to further his education in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Xavier University (XULA), where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business in 2002, and the University of New Orleans (UNO), where he earned a master's degree in Business Administration in 2004. Aqua embraced any platform that would enable him to grow in knowledge and use his knowledge for the uplifting of mankind. Most notably, he became a chosen member of the fine gentlemen of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated during his undergraduate years at Xavier.
After moving to Dallas in 2005, Aqua and his beloved Christina built not only a family but a legacy of impact. Through his leadership of multiple healthcare organizations, he created more than businesses—he created pathways of care, dignity, and hope for countless families. His work ensured that patients received compassionate end-of-life care, safe transportation, and supportive living environments, reflecting his belief that service should always be personal and heartfelt. He was employed with Haven Home Health for approximately nine years before founding Holding Hands Hospice, where he employed and led the finest group of health advocates and caregivers for almost 10 years.
Aqua’s presence extended far beyond his companies. He was a true connector—bringing together friends, peers, and fellow entrepreneurs, always looking for ways to support, uplift, and create opportunities for others. He built relationships first, knowing that meaningful connections were the foundation of both life and business.
Aqua married the love of his life, Christina Nicole Nichols, on April 28, 2006, at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Three adorable children were born to their union - a son and two daughters. The two remained united in holy matrimony for 20 years until his transition.
Aqua was a devout believer in Christ. He united with Lakepointe Church, where he worshipped at the Mesquite and Rockwall campuses. Most recently, Aqua shared his heart as a panelist at the Kingdom Business Leaders Fellowship, where he spoke about the role of faith in his life. He openly expressed that God was at the center of every decision he made—guiding how he led his family, served his community, and stewarded his businesses. That foundation of faith was evident in everything he did.
Among many hobbies, Aqua delighted in fishing, traveling, going to the beach, swimming, and playing in the basketball league. One of his greatest joys was embracing the serenity and exhilaration of the open road while riding his motorcycle.
At the center of it all was his love for family. He was a devoted husband to Christina Nicole Nichols Umoren; a proud father to Aqua Jai Brees Umoren and Skye Nicole Soleil Umoren; and a loving son to his mother, Jane Carolyn Emery Lewis, and his parents-in-love, Dwight Nichols & Cynthia Nichols. A host of other relatives and friends will also cherish lasting memories, including his sister, Tamiko Natasha Umoren; his aunt and uncle, Becky Emery Towns & Pete Towns; his cousins, Jessica Wallace and family, Jocko Hopkins, Sue Alexander, and Gail Canalis; his brother and sisters-in-law, John Edwards & Lisa Edwards, Trina Shanks & Edwin Shanks and family, and Dewayne Nichols & Rachel Nichols and family; his niece and nephew-in-law, Jessica Edwards-Watts & Jordan Watts; and his niece, Mikaela Edwards.
A man of memorable charisma and energy, Aqua will be fondly remembered for his loyal, adventurous, and generous nature. His life was a testament to servant leadership—a man who ran his race with purpose, poured into others without hesitation, and left every space better than he found it. His legacy lives on in the lives he impacted, the community he strengthened, and the family he loved so deeply.
