Audrey Canty Obituary

Audrey Canty was born on January 14, 1928, in Hornsbyville, Virginia. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2019, in Allen, Texas, at age 91.

Audrey attended Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Virginia. She continued her education at The Murrell Dobbins Career and Technical Education School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she earned her certificate of Cosmetology. Audrey worked in logistics and supply for several years of her career. After many years of service, she retired from International Resistance Company (IRC), a manufacturing company based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2008, as her health began to decline, Audrey relocated from Darby Township, Pennsylvania, to Allen, Texas, to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law who attentively cared for her.

At a young age, Audrey accepted Christ as her Lord. She was a long-time member of First African Baptist Church in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania.

Audrey met the love of her life, Charles James Canty, Jr., shortly after Charles was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. The two married, and one son was born to their union. Charles and Audrey remained united in holy matrimony for 65 years until her transition.

Among many hobbies, Audrey delighted in knitting, shopping, and cooking. She enjoyed cooking fried trout , mac and cheese, and peas every Friday. She could even make leftovers look and taste like a feast for royalty. An avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, she especially delighted in watching baseball every Sunday after church.

Audrey will forever be fondly admired for her style and class. She was a soft-spoken, kindhearted soul who touched the lives of all who crossed her path. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Carter and Virgie Robinson Carter; and sister, Martha Ailene Brooks. Those left to cherish precious memories and continue her legacy of love include her husband, Charles J. Canty, Jr.; son, Gordon Canty and his wife, Angela; and grandsons, Marcus Allen Canty and Cameron Edward Canty.
