“I must work the work of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” John 9:4
Bobby Joe Lyons began his journey on August 25, 1950, in Wills Point, Texas. He was the first born of three sons given to Joe Leslie Lyons and Nellie Mae Spencer Lyons.
Growing up in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Wills Point, Texas, Bobby accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Sunday School and BTU, ushered, sang in the choir, and participated in Vacation Bible School while at Pleasant Hill.
Bobby began his schooling at Cartwright Public Schools in Wills Point. After integration, he entered Wills Point High School during his junior year. During his high school years, he was a member of the acapella choir, played on the basketball and football teams, and was the president of his class. After graduating from Wills Point High School in 1968, Bobby attended Henderson County Junior College in Athens, Texas. After completing a year of study at HCJC, he enlisted in the United States Army with the intention of serving in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge shortly after his enlistment due to medical reasons. Bobby later continued his education at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where he received a BS in Psychology in 1974.
Upon completing college, Bobby worked as a Commercial Lines Marketing Representative for several Fortune 500 multi-line insurance carriers in the Dallas area. In 1985, he founded LYONS Insurance Agency, a multi-line independent insurance agency he successfully and pridefully ran. Due to health issues, he retired in 2013. During those years following retirement, he was able to take the time and have immeasurable joy in caring for and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wife, Emma, who had experience in personal lines insurance, marketing, and management, co-partnered with him in 1989 and continues the family business partnering with their son.
Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Emma L. Tucker, on March 20, 1970. This union was blessed with two wonderful children.
Bobby was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Sim and Mattie Scruggs Lyons; his maternal grandparents, James and Rebecca Smith Spencer; and his parents, Joe Leslie and Nellie Mae Spencer Lyons.
