Brian Wakefield, J.D. Obituary

Brian M. Wakefield, affectionately known as Chief, a native of Harvey, IL, born December 6, 1957, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Methodist Richardson Hospital in Richardson, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of honor, strength, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.

Chief dedicated 24 years of distinguished service to his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with honor as a Chief Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to service and excellence through the practice of law, serving as an Attorney-at-Law with Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP in Dayton, Ohio. An avid reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was widely respected for his commanding oratory, exceptional writing ability, and sharp intellect. He found great joy tending to his yard and landscaping, and he especially loved cooking for family and friends. Above all, Chief’s greatest devotion was to his family.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief was a man of deep conviction and unwavering faith. He devoted himself to the study of biblical principles, spending countless hours reading, researching, and reflecting on Scripture.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Steven and Frieda Delores Wakefield; his daughter, Myla Sabrina; his son, Brian M. Jr. “BJ”; and his beloved companion, Maximillian.

Chief was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was rooted in loyalty, love, and steadfast commitment. He shared a deep and enduring bond with his beloved wife, Brenda H. Wakefield, a partnership defined by dedication, respect, and abiding love.

He was a proud father to Valerie Selena Wakefield and lovingly embraced his bonus daughters, Ashanta Monique (Ira) Davis and Shakia Michelle (David) Moliere. His faithful companion, Boomer, remained close by his side.

Brian adored his grandchildren, Anya Jones, Nadia Moliere, Anaia Moliere, Jaelon Germany, Mariah Davis, David Moliere, Jr., and Ari Davis. In addition, great joy was expressed for his great-grandsons, Alexander Mack and Makai Brown, all of whom hold a special place in his heart. Included are his grand-dogs, Tazman James and Tyson John.

Chief is also survived by his five siblings, Steven Wakefield, Lee (Kitty) Wakefield, Frieda (Herschel) Craig, John A. Wakefield, and Eleanor (Michael) Williams; his aunt, Pearlene Poindexter; a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and godchildren; and a host of cherished cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever honor his memory.

Chief’s legacy is one of service, faith, integrity, and enduring love. His life was a testament to commitment — to country, to conviction, and above all, to family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever by all whose lives he touched.
