Charles Canty, Jr. Obituary

Charles James Canty, Jr. was born on April 28, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He transitioned to eternity on January 5, 2020, in Allen, Texas.

Charles attended Frederick Douglas High School and graduated from Bordentown Manual Training Industrial School in Bordentown, New Jersey. He went on to enlist in the United States Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged. Charles also attended Eckels College of Mortuary Science where he graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree. Charles enjoyed a longtime career with the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service. He also worked with W.H. Harris Funeral Home for more than 10 years before and after retirement.

Affectionately regarded as "Pop Pop", Charles delighted in reading, photography, and jazz. He especially enjoyed Duke Ellington's 'Big Band' jazz. At a young age, Charles professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a longtime member of Providence Baptist Church in Chester, Pennsylvania. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles James Canty, Sr. and Lillian Tolliver; brother, David Canty; and wife of 65 years, Audrey Canty. Those left to cherish precious memories and continue his legacy of love include his son, Gordon Canty and his wife, Angela; and grandsons, Marcus Allen Canty and Cameron Edward Canty.
