A Life Well Lived…

Charles Edward Myers was born on December 6, 1946, to Vollie and Lillian (Stephen) Myers in Temple, Texas. Charles gave his life to Christ at a young age at Corinth Baptist Church in Temple. He spent his later years serving as a dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church in Rowlett, Texas, where he was ordained as a deacon.

Charles graduated with honors from Dunbar High School, Class of 1965. An athlete on the Track team, Charles also participated in the Acappella Choir, English Club, and Student Council, and he was the Dunbar Press Editor-in-Chief and the Financial Secretary of the Class of '65. He went on to attend North Texas State University, majoring in Psychology and Sociology. In 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he served as a Ranger and Drill Sergeant. Charles was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal, and he was an expert marksman with M-14. Notably, he was awarded a Purple Heart for injury during combat in the Vietnam War.

While attending North Texas State, Charles met the love of his life, Jessie Rider. On January 3, 1970, the two married. Two sons, Adrian and Terrence Shane, were born to their union. Charles was a loving husband and was delighted to be married to his best friend for 53 years. He was a perfect example of a wonderful father and provider.

Charles' professional life included more than 20 years of employment with American Building Maintenance. After many years of dedicated service, he retired as Branch Manager in 2010.

He will be fondly remembered and forever admired for his dedication to his wife, children, and family. His personality, fun-loving nature, and charismatic smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vollie Myers; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Alder Myers; maternal grandparents, Sullivan and Bama Stephen; and parents-in-law, Barnett and Sarah Rider.

Surrounded by his loving family, Charles Myers departed this earthly life on September 10, 2023. Those left to cherish his love and legacy include his devoted wife, Jessie Myers; his children, Adrian (Pamela) and Terrence (Eboney); his grandchildren - Julian, Ryan, Madison, and Jordan; his mother, Lillian Myers; his siblings, Ruby House (Willard), Andrew Myers, Cora Armelin (Joseph), Estella Davis, and Russell Myers; his in-laws - Robert Willis, Sr, Jeanell Rider, and Bernice Rider; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
