On March 17, 1941, in Texarkana, Arkansas, Charlotte Yvonne Smith Jones became the firstborn child of Robert Smith and Lucy Stanley Smith, and the first grandchild on both the maternal and paternal sides of her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she transitioned to eternity with her Lord on April 19, 2026.
As a child, Charlotte accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Miles Chapel CME Church in Texarkana, Arkansas, with the loving guidance of her cherished maternal grandmother, Bertha Stanley, whom she affectionately regarded as "Nannie". She attended public schools in Texarkana, Texas, and graduated as salutatorian from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1958. She furthered her educational prowess at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Government.
While attending Texas Southern University, she met and married Floyd Jones, her beloved husband and life partner of 61 years. They later relocated to Texarkana, where in 1972, they became the proud parents of their beautiful daughter, Patrice.
Charlotte began her career in Texarkana, Texas, as the Director of Model Cities. She later became the Director of the Housing Authority. Thereafter, the family relocated to the Dallas area, where she accepted the position as the Director of the Housing Authority for McKinney, Texas. Continuing her career pursuit, Charlotte became the Manager of Code Enforcement for the City of Dallas, where she retired, leaving a legacy as a valuable contributor to the infrastructure of the city’s expansion.
Charlotte enjoyed cooking, politics, shopping, traveling, listening to jazz and blues, and, without a doubt, being with her family and friends. She also delighted in serving her community. In 1977, she became a proud member of the Texarkana Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, enjoying a fruitful experience within her beloved organization.
The family joined Hamilton Park United Methodist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Ronald D. Henderson, D.Div.
