Cheryl Diane (Pointer) Rainey

Cheryl Diane (Pointer) Rainey was born on December 14, 1960, to George Henry and Elisabeth Beatrice Poole Lloyd Pointer in New York, New York. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord on June 15, 2022, in Dallas, Texas.

Cheryl graduated from Montclair High School in 1978. She went on to attend Northeastern Christian Junior College in 1980 where she earned her associate's degree. She later attended Abilene Christian University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1982. Cheryl enjoyed a longtime career as a licensed daycare provider until her transition. She loved children. Her goal was to ensure that all children in her care were prepared for the next steps in their educational journey.

Cheryl married the love of her life, Darrell Rainey, on July 24, 1982. The couple nurtured and loved four children - Crystal, Christopher, Cedric, and Stevaughn.

Cheryl was a faithful member of Greenville Avenue Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas. She was a faithful servant in the Education, Benevolence, and Evangelism ministries.

Among many hobbies, Cheryl delighted in caring for others and was always a phone call away for anything you needed. She loved her grandchildren! She loved to text message, video chat, go to games, buy books, and find any excuse to spend time with them. In her later years, she enjoyed baking cakes. She was so excited when Aunt Ruby approved of her baking.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Elisabeth Beatrice Poole (Lloyd) Pointer; daughter, Crystal Diane Rainey; grandmothers, Ida Southerland and M. Beatrice Lloyd; sister, Phyllis Eileen Pointer; mother-in-law, Connie Bee Rainey; father-in-law, Leotis Rainey; and brother-in-law, Gregory Rainey.

Those left to cherish precious memories include her loving husband of 39 years, Darrell Rainey; children - Christopher Darrell Rainey (Montoya), Cedric Darnell Rainey (Jennelyn), and Stevaughn Williams; son-in-law, Delarryo Winzer; grandchildren - Alivia Rainey, Natallie Rainey, Jaymeson Rainey, Julian Lucas Rainey, Jalen Carter Rainey, Sean Williams, and Nova Williams; father, George Henry Pointer; siblings - Jeffery Pointer (Tonya), Russell Pointer (Gina), and Susan Hicks (Rodney), sister-in-law, Rhonda Stith (Herman); nieces and nephews - Morgan Pointer, Nikki Mcthune (Rico), Raquel Pointer, Rachael Pointer, Shantel Pointer, Sydney Hicks-Grant (Michael), Payton Hicks, Shonda Stith, Terrence Pointer (Chandy), Derek Pointer, Russell Andrew Pointer, Jr., Chris Stith, and Zena Brown (Donzell) ; great-nephews, Terrence Pointer II, Bryson Jones, Calab Jones, and Solomon Brown; great-nieces - Paris Mcthune, London Mcthune, Trinity Ellis, Destiny Ellis, and Kailar Grant; aunt, Ruby Worthy (Clinton); uncle, Darrell Lloyd ((Kirsten); and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
