Cynthia Diane (Hopkins) LeBlanc was born November 23, 1949, to the parentage of Tommy Merrille Hopkins, Sr. and Lillie Pearl (Scruggs) Hopkins. She was the eldest of six children. She transitioned to eternity in Dallas, Texas, on May 4, 2024.
Cynthia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. J. W Rowe at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Garland, Texas, where her paternal grandparents, Tom and Dora Hopkins, were founding/charter members. She was a pianist for Sunday School and directed the Junior and Toddler Choirs.
From 1st through 10th grades, she attended George Washington Carver Elementary/High School where she sang in the Acappella Choir and was a member of the Student Council and the Honor Society. Cynthia graduated from Garland High School in 1967 and attended the University of North Texas where she graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a double Minor in Music and Sociology. She enjoyed a career at Eastman Kodak and the State of Texas.
In the 70s, Cynthia was lead vocalist with her brother Tommy Jr.’s “Just Us” band that he co-founded and in which he was the drummer. Her entrepreneurial spirit allowed her to co-own Lemani LTD, a silk flower arrangement business. She was also co-owner of LeBlanc Janitorial Services.
On July 2, 1982, she welcomed the birth of her only child, Omayo Jochal Hopkins Barber, and on April 11, 2018, she was blessed with the birth of her only grandchild, Lyric Harmony Barber. They will always remain the true loves of her life.
Her memories of a happy childhood lasted throughout her life, as she had two wonderful parents, two sets of wonderful grandparents, and aunts and uncles whom she loved. She loved to tell of the great summer vacations the family enjoyed, as well as the stories her grandparents told, which she passed down to Omayo and Lyric.
Awaiting her in Heaven are her father, Tommy Hopkins, Sr.; her brothers, Tommy Hopkins, Jr. and Joseph Charles "Chuck" Hopkins; sisters, Dora Pearl "Dody" Hopkins Hicks and Teresa Joyce Hopkins; her grandparents - Tom and Dora Hopkins and Isaac and Naomi Scruggs; her aunt, Naomi Scruggs Kemp; and her uncle, Charlie Scruggs.
Those left to cherish lasting and precious memories include her mother, Lillie Hopkins of Garland, Texas; her son and granddaughter, Omayo Barber and Lyric Barber of Mesquite, Texas; her sister, I. Gayle Hopkins of Garland, Texas; her niece, Veronica Cross (Lyn); her nephews - Tony Hicks, Jr. (Latesha), Marcel McGuire, and Anthony Hopkins; her uncles, Joseph Scruggs (Etta) of Desoto, Texas, and S. W. Scruggs of Rowlett, Texas; her special cousin, Carol Dennis-Dylan of Palmdale, California; her special friends - Beverly Phillips, Mark Wilson, B’nois King, Carl Muhammad, and Judge Andrew Carruthers; and a host of cousins and friends.
