Daniel Thompson Obituary

During a routine doctor's visit, Tara and Terry Thompson were informed that if they were to carry out their pregnancy, they would be faced with a host of complications seeing how their baby boy was showing signs of “special needs” at just sixteen weeks. After consulting God with prayers for specific instructions and choosing to be obedient to his word, the couple opted not to terminate the pregnancy, and on the twenty-third day of October in the year of two thousand and three, Daniel J. Thompson was born.

Famously known as “Dando” and intimately known as “Best Buddy”, Daniel was a light to the world! He brightened up any dark place and brought peace to chaos.  His parents went through a series of faith testing situations with the first being informed that Dando would never walk after several foot surgeries and multiple in-home therapies. Although nonverbal, Daniel strongly disliked when others spoke for him. At the tender age of six years old and on a mission to prove that God has the final say, Daniel took his first steps and to add glory to triumph, he participated in several Special Olympics often placing first in his age group!

Daniel adopted the “can do” spirit of his father and the “if you won’t, I will” character of his mother, and on the twenty-seventh day of May, Daniel was a part of South Garland High School’s 2023 graduating class. Absolutely nothing held Daniel from reaching his full potential. He was obsessed with singing and smelling good and took a keen liking to light up gadgets, fashion watches and electronics such as smartphones and iPads in which he communicated with. Daniel possessed secret talents of being an artist and DJ. During his freshman year of high school he placed second in his district's art competition and he often played brunch-like songs of 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop”, Bobby Valentino's "Slow Down" and Fantasia’s “ When I See You” repeatedly. He also predicted the weather by playing Barney’s “Rain, Rain Go Away” right before a thunderstorm.

Daniel’s pure and infectious spirit mended relationships, softened hearts, and gave lessons on patience. He was a fan favorite but his most-loved people were his older sister and brother , Courtney and Joshua. They adored Daniel and he was especially proud to be the glue of the “Sissy & Brothey” gang. He’d sometimes torment them, but it was worth every laugh that was produced. He also enjoyed being an uncle to his nephew Zayne aka "Chu Chu''. They shared similar interests in TV shows, movies and toys, which sometimes created a feud when sharing but they would always come to a compromise leaving both of them happy to exist in the same spaces together.

Daniel’s pure and unadulterated spirit is preceded in death by Jean Thompson (Grandmother), Carrie & Jerry Prowell (Grandmother & Grandfather) and survived by  Granny Bae (Great- Grandmother, Selma AL), Terry Thompson (Father), Tara Thompson (Mother), Courtney Turner (Sister), Joshua Thompson (Brother), Zayne Freeman (Nephew) and a host of beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
