David Moore, Sr. Obituary

David Lloyd Moore, Sr. was born on November 14, 1950, in Gause, Texas. He transitioned to eternity on June 5, 2021, in Garland, Texas.

Affectionately regarded as "David", "Big Dave", and "Lloyd", David graduated in 1969 from Hearne High School in Hearne, Texas. An avid fan of all sports, he was captain of the football team. Upon graduation, he went on to work for Texas Instruments in the plating department. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, David retired.

In 1972, he married Geneva Joyce Hawkins. To their union, four sons were born: Wendell, Christopher, David, Jr., and Rodney.

David accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized in the Brazos River. Later, he joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.E. Price, Sr.

David never met a stranger and had a personality as big as they come. He had an unmatched passion for sports. He often spent hours on the phone discussing the plays of a team with his beloved brother, John, or calling his sons to recap and discuss how “sorry” a player had been in any given game. David’s love of sports carried over to his sons at an early age, with all of them sharing that same love for sports as excellent athletes and avid sports fans. David often loaded his sons and the boys from the neighborhood in his car and took them to practice and sporting events. All the young men in the neighborhood knew that they could stop in at the Moore home and enjoy a debate about sports, have a good laugh, or converse about anything on their minds with “Big Dave”. His presence was known in a room with his classic “Watch out now!” followed by his laugh and cunning smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conaway Moore, Sr. and Pearl Ella (Moore) Moore; son, Christopher Moore; beloved, Geneva Moore; brothers - Billy Moore, Larkin Moore, and John Moore; and sisters - Elsie P. White, Johnnie B. Wilson, Connie Mae Gray, Ozelia Moore, and Claudia Griffin. Those left to cherish precious memories include his children - Wendell Moore (Veronica), Jarrod Hall (Becky), David Moore, Jr., Rodney Moore, and Dominic Echols; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings - Conaway "Buddy" Moore, Jr. (Willie), Jenny V. Brooks, Cerlestine Evans, Clara Bowens (Max), and Francis Carter (Lozell); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
