Deacon Eugene Tinner Obituary

Eugene Tinner was born on July 12, 1923, in Howland, Texas, to Ralph Tinner and Helen Martin. He attended Gibbons High School. After high school, in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army. Initially stationed in San Antonio, he was later assigned to the Philippines and Tokyo. His jobs included engineer truck technician and corporal technician. Eugene was also a qualified marksman. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was proud to be a World War II veteran. During his duty, he received many awards, including the American Theater Campaign, Medal Asiatic Pacific, Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Victory Ribbon with one service stripe, and three Overseas Service Bar awards, to name a few. Eugene was honorably discharged in 1946.

He returned to Paris, Texas, and met the love of his life, Euphemia Clement. They married on June 8, 1948, and six children were born to their union - four daughters and two sons. In 1955, Eugene and Euphemia were one of the first families to live in the historic Hamilton Park neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. They remained united for 66 years until Euphemia's transition on March 14, 2015.

Eugene had a strong work ethic. He was employed with Eastman Kodak for 35 years with perfect attendance. He retired in 1987.

Eugene and Euphemia were two of the founding pillars of First Baptist Church Hamilton Park. A faithful member of 60+ years, Eugene served as a deacon, executive board member, and mentor. He was a well-known prayer warrior who began each prayer with, "Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob..." and ended each prayer with, "And when time ceases and we are through falling and being misunderstood, make room for me in thy kingdom so I can say that sweet Holy name forever and ever. Amen." Eugene's commitment to community was also demonstrated through his involvement in various organizations. He was a boy scout leader, member of the NAACP, and active member of the Hamilton Park Civic League. In 1985, he received the "Special Recognition Award" for outstanding services from the White Rock NAACP. In 2012, he received the "Volunteer Recognition Award" for outstanding volunteer service in the community. In 2013, he received the "Man of the Year Award" from First Baptist Church Hamilton Park.

Among many hobbies, Eugene enjoyed reading and making homemade cards for all occasions. He also enjoyed playing cards, specifically Spades. He delighted in dining at his favorite places, including El Fenix, Razoo's, and Highland Park Cafeteria.

Eugene went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Tinner and Helen Martin; wife, Euphemia Tinner; and sister, Ella Mae. Those left to cherish precious memories and continue his legacy include his six children: Beverly Tinner, Renee Tinner-Allen (Lincoln), Rebecca Tinner, Regina Green (Lawrence), Reginald Tinner (Iris), and Wilford Tinner (Rosmé); eight grandchildren: Naarah Allen, Joshua Tinner, Ebony Taylor (Brandon), Jordan Tinner, LeeAnn Tinner, Jared Tinner, Leeah Tinner, and Joseph Tinner; four great-grandchildren: Joshua Tinner II, Kaylana Tinner, Jacob Tinner, and Khari Tinner; one brother, Nathan "N.H." Armstrong; two sisters-in-law, Frankie Mae McFadden (Harold) and Margaret Clement; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends and neighbors.
