Deborah Roswitha Whiting was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May, 14, 1949. Deborah peacefully left this world on March 4, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, strength, and laughter cherished by her family and friends.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Garic and Purnell Owens, Deborah was the fifth of eight siblings. She was married to the late Sergeant Jerry E. Whiting, which to this union no children were born. After relocating to Texas, Deborah dedicated her career to FDIC Banking, where she worked until retirement. Post-retirement, she discovered a passion for education, serving as a part-time substitute teacher for the Dallas Independent School District for 14 wonderful years.
Deborah is preceded in death by her brothers, Ray Owens and Lemmuell Mitchell (Gail); her sisters, Angela Lewis and Deniese Murphy. Those left to cherish lasting memories include her brother, Ronald Mitchell (affectionately known as Jabuloni); her youngest brother, Anthony Owen; and her youngest sister, Meg Owens. Additionally; she leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in both the Baltimore area and Dallas, Texas.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and caregivers who provided unwavering support to Deborah, with special acknowledgment to Rita McLean and Audry Tolliver. Their communication and dedication made a significant difference in our family's journey during this time. We thank God for the goodness and kindness they brought into Deborah’s life.
We also express our appreciation to Deborah’s church home, Amity Bible Church, and to Chamberland Funerals and Cremations for their compassionate services. Deborah’s infectious spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves a lasting legacy of kindness, joy, and unforgettable memories. Rest in peace, dear Deborah – you will forever remain in our hearts.
