In the year of our Lord, 1914, on February 2nd, God blessed Peter and Victoria Griffin with a beautiful baby girl they named Doll. In the year of our Lord, 2020, on May 11th, God said, "Well-done, thy good and faithful servant."
Doll was born in Gilmer, Texas, one of 10 born to her parents' union. All preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. She received her education at Zion Hill School.
As a teen, Doll was mesmerized with childbirth, so the midwives brought her aboard to assist with deliveries. From these experiences, she knew nursing was a passion early in life. An invitation from her aunt to follow her passion led her to Dallas, Texas, which eventually led her to a job working with paraplegic children at Scottish Rite Hospital until retirement.
Doll loved children and wanted a home filled with laughter. She united in matrimony with Ollie B. Wallace and from this union, a son was born, J.B. Wallace, Sr. Later, she married Connie McGee. No children were birthed from this union, but together they ran the family business, Papa Dad’s Bar-B-Que, in North Dallas. They were married more than 40 years. Both husbands and her son preceded her in death.
Doll loved the Lord and was a stewardess of his word. In Dallas, she joined and remained a faithful member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a faithful member of Eastern Star. She loved sisterhood and fellowship, and she instilled this in all she touched.
Doll’s eyes have seen many things in her tenure. One of many prideful moments was voting. Another proud moment was seeing an African-American be inducted as President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama (#44).
Loved ones left to cherish precious memories and continue Doll’s legacy include six grandchildren: Gilda (James) Wallace-Crear, J.B. Wallace, Jr., Stacy Wallace, Jeffery L. Wallace, Dollie Wallace, and Valerie Wallace; 15 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
