Donald Shelby Obituary

Donald Ray Shelby, affectionately known as “Donnie,” was born on April 9, 1952, in Dallas, Texas. A proud and resourceful man, Donnie lived a life defined by hard work, family devotion, and faith.

He was a graduate of high school and later pursued studies in Computer and Electronics Technology, completing some college toward that field. Throughout his career, Donnie served as a Transportation Supervisor with the Dallas School District and later became an Owner and Operator in OTR Trucking—professions that reflected his dedication to service and reliability. After many years of diligent work, he retired in 2018.

Donnie united in marriage with his beloved wife, Ruby Shelby, on January 30, 1972. Their union was blessed with love, partnership, and family until Ruby’s passing.

A devout Christian, Donnie was active in his community and involved with organizations such as the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and the Minority Business Alliance. He enjoyed gardening, home improvement, and working with computers, finding joy in both creativity and problem-solving.

Those who knew Donnie remember him as proud, resourceful, and caring—a man who always found a way and looked out for others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Shelby; his mother, Ruby Bernice (Murray) Cash; and his father, Roy Cash.

Those left to cherish lasting memories include his daughter, Demetria Fields; his siblings, Marie Guesby, Roy Cash, Jr., Jennifer Ridge, Sandra Shelby, and Hubert Shelby; his favorite cousin, Velva Haynes; and a host of loving family and friends who will miss him deeply but celebrate his remarkable life.
