Doris was born on August 8, 1932, in Palestine, Texas, to the parentage of Harper and Jewel Simmons Hanks. Surrounded by her loving family, she transitioned to eternity with her Lord on October 14, 2018, in Richardson, Texas, at age 86.
Upon graduating from Green Bay High School, Doris went on to become a skilled seamstress entrepreneur.
She met and married, George Branch, Sr. To their union, three children were born: George, Jr., Gregory, and Lora.
Doris was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park where she served under the late Dr. J. Lee Foster and Dr. Gregory Foster. Doris enjoyed being a part of the usher ministry for many years.
Affectionately regarded as "Granny" by her grandchildren, Doris was most passionate about caring for her family. A natural nurturer, she was a remarkable wife, mother, and grandmother.
Strong-willed. Outspoken. Excellent cook. Protective of her children. Doris Branch will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, Harper Hanks and Jewel Simmons Hanks. She was also preceded in death by several of her siblings: Arlene Watson, Jessie Lee Mitchell, Vernice Hanks, Sr., Cora Lee Birdow, Harvey Lee Brown, Willie Hanks, Harper Hanks, Jr., and Harlene McKnight. Those left to cherish precious memories include her husband, George Branch, Sr.; son, George Branch, Jr.; son, Gregory Branch and his wife, Margaret; daughter, Lora Branch-Davis and her husband, George; grandchildren: Teneisha Buckner-Hunter and her husband, Tyron, Jacques Branch, Maleiyah Davis, Xavier Branch, and Jared Davis; two great-grandchildren; siblings: Clyde Hanks and his wife, Elouise, Tommie Lee Hanks, Clifton Hanks and his wife, Roylene, and Mary Russell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
