Doris May (Cooper) Thompson passed away peacefully on the evening of April 13, 2025. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the final days of her life. Doris was born on January 8, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, but had lived in Dallas, Texas, since 2005.
Affectionately known as “Maw Maw,” she was a beacon of warmth, always there in times of need. Her love for reading, cooking, gardening, and sports was surpassed only by her love for her family, whom she nurtured and cared for with great intensity. She embodied a grace and wisdom that one could only hope to exude. Doris was a devoted Christian and a member of Greater Cornerstone Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Thompson; her parents, Ernest Cooper and Lizzie (Dudly) Cooper; her siblings - Ernestine, Beatrice, Wilhelmina, Joseph, Eva, Glen, and John.
Those left to cherish lasting memories include, her sons - Taffray Thompson (Audrey) of Houston, Texas, Ronald Thompson (Barbara) of Garland, Texas, and Michael Thompson (Satin) of Dallas, Texas; her six grandchildren - Javonda Lightner, Tiffany Thomas, Taffany Davis, Trellis Stevenson, Ahmad Muhammad, and Michael Thompson, Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
