“He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might, he increases their strength.” Isaiah 40:29
On the morning of September 22, 2024, during his daily walk, calmness encircled the air and laid to rest the bright spirit of Brother Eddie Gibbons, Sr., leading him to a place of greener pastures.
His journey began on March 4, 1948, in Jacksonville, FL. He was the fourth child of Ramsey Sr. and Susie (Atkins) Gibbons.
He attended William Raines Senior High School and was a part of the first graduating class of 1965. He later attended Florida Community College of Jacksonville to further his education. Eddie was employed by the City of Jacksonville and the State of Florida, where he later retired.
He united in marriage with Stephanie "Dawn" Lewis, and three wonderful children were born to their union - Akia Danielle, Chantel, and Amar.
At an early age, Eddie confessed Jesus Christ as his Savior; he loved the Lord with all his heart. An anointed man of God, he fervently and powerfully preached the Word of God and lived God's word in his daily walk.
A man of few words who loved nature and respected all of God’s creation, Eddie will be fondly remembered as a problem-solver and jack of all trades who remained strong until the end of his journey. He was a prime example of what it means to be a loving husband, father, and Christian man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mamie Gibbons; and four brothers - Joe Gibbons, Ramsey Gibbons, Jr., Samuel Gibbons, and Allen Gibbons.
Those left to cherish precious memories include his loving wife, Stephanie "Dawn" Gibbons, and their children; his children from a previous marriage - Deidre Gibbons, Karrah Gibbons, Carla Gibbons, and Eddie Gibbons, Jr.; three brothers - Jacob Gibbons, Ray Gibbons, and Isaiah Gibbons; three sisters - Mary Gibbons, Rachel Harper, and Easter Adams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Brother Eddie has transitioned into greener pastures…so long my friend, until we meet again.
