Ella Lemons Obituary

Ella Lee (Jones) Lemons, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and devotion. Born to the parentage of Henry Jones and Ora B. (Henderson) Jones on October 27, 1936, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Ella was a shining example of faith and compassion throughout her life.

She married her late husband, Reverend Hoover C. Lemons, on November 22, 1952. Their 68 years of marriage were marked by a deep love and commitment to their family and faith. In addition to being an Army officer's wife for 24 years, together they served their community and church, with Ella supporting Hoover in his pastoral duties for 28 years while also sharing her musical talents as a choir director at Marlboro Missionary Heights Baptist Church in Killeen, TX, St. Paul Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX, and Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in San Angelo, TX.

Ella was a graduate of Angelo State University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). She dedicated her career as a registered nurse at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, specializing in OBGYN care, where her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many.

As a faithful Christian, Ella was known for her unwavering devotion to the Lord. She was an active participant in Sunday School and cherished her time spent in fellowship before her health began to decline. Her exceptional qualities—motherly, poised, tenacious, friendly, and loving—made her a beacon of light to all who knew her.

Ella’s hobbies included playing the piano, reading, and oil painting, activities that brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity. Her love for music and art will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of experiencing her talents.

Ella is preceded in death by her husband, Hoover C. Lemons; her son, Michael Lemons; and her brother, Juan Jones. She is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Lemons Graham and her husband Clifford, and Angela Lemons Mathews and her husband Tony; her son, Kevin Lemons; her cherished grandchildren, Clifford Graham III, Kelvin J. Graham and wife Robin, Michael A. Mathews, Ryann N. Mathews, and Moriah L. Mathews; as well as her great-grandchildren, Jalen Graham, Imani Graham, Alana Graham, Akiha Graham, Harmoni Hamilton, and Lyric Hamilton; her adopted granddaughter, Tonia Owens Jackson; and a host of loving in-laws, relatives, and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.

Her family and friends will forever hold her memory dear, celebrating a life well-lived and a heart that loved deeply. Ella Lee Lemons will be profoundly missed but will continue to inspire those she leaves behind through her enduring faith and love.
