Elvira (Herrera) Quijas Rudd was born on September 17, 1948, in El Paso, TX to parents Yldifonso Salazar Quijas and Berta Gutierrez Herrera. Surrounded by her friends and children, she passed away on June 7, 2023, at her daughter's home.
She grew up in El Paso, TX and Los Angeles, CA. She was the oldest of seven siblings and the first granddaughter born on either side of the family. Everyone anticipated her arrival. She attended 12 years of school, overcoming the obstacle of speaking a different language well before ESL programs were offered. She graduated from high school and went on to attend California Polytechnic State University. She served a one-and-a-half-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Leon/Guanajuato area of Mexico. She had various jobs throughout her life, but the one she was most proud of was raising her five children.
She was creative, quick-witted, and warm with a smile that made her stand out in a crowd. Elvira loved her family. She was a fierce protector that worked hard and sacrificed to make sure her children had opportunities to succeed and experience new things throughout their lives. She served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings, such as a librarian, primary teacher, and genealogist among others. She loved our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ; she believed in the atonement and had a strong everlasting testimony of it.
She is survived by her five children - Ben, Zeniff, Rosie, David, and Rachel; eight grandchildren; and siblings - Rosa Harry, Celia Quijas and David Quijas.
The celebration of Elvira’s life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 513 Sycamore St, Farmersville, TX 75442 at 10:00 a.m. Interment and grave dedication will follow immediately after at the Oddfellows Cemetery across the street from the church building.
