Evelyne Redmond Obituary

Evelyne A. (King) Redmond was born on September 20, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to Matt and Wolverine King of Mississippi. She transitioned to eternity with her Lord on July 28, 2022, in Dallas, Texas.

Evelyne attended and graduated from Forestville Elementary and Hyde Park Academy High School in Chicago, Illinois. She continued her education in business and clerical studies after her high school graduation.

Evelyne accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at 44th Street Baptist Church which became New Covenant Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Elijah Thurston. She worked in various areas within the church, including the youth and music ministries.

She later joined Hyde Park Bible Church under the pastorate of Rev. Chester M. Batey where she served as the church pianist. There, Evelyne met and married her one and only love, Floyd William Redmond, Sr. After a brief courtship of only three months, the two married on July 3, 1960. Their union was blessed with three sons - Floyd William, Jr., Robert Dwayne, and Michael L’Verdis. They purchased their first home on the south side of Chicago. Being a young married couple, they enjoyed social events and participated with the Cortez Ye Marshil modeling group and the Bachelor and Benedicts Social Club.

After 24 years of marriage, they relocated to the Dallas, Texas area in 1984. Upon their arrival, they joined First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park under the pastorate of Rev. J. Lee Foster. While at First Baptist, Evelyne served in numerous ministries, including the Sanctuary Choir, Women’s Chorus, Women’s Ministry, Sunday School, Communion Board, and the Marriage Ministry, to name a few. She was a strong supporter of every ministry, especially the Male Chorus.

Because of her love for service, Evelyne was a founding member of Willing Vessels Ministry, Inc. in 2007. Every year, she looked forward to the annual fellowship and leading the Senior Saints' praise devotion at the Annual Women’s Conference. As an avid traveler, she visited many countries around the world and especially loved to cruise.

Evelyne was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Wolverine King; sisters, Doris Lee Dixon and Barbara Jean Scruggs; and a brother, Matt King, Jr.

Those left to cherish precious memories include her husband of 62 years, Floyd William Redmond, Sr.; three sons - Floyd Redmond, Jr. (Julaine) of Garland, Texas, Robert Redmond of San Diego, California/Garland, Texas, and Michael Redmond (Brooke) of Rockwall, Texas; four grandsons - Lavance Johnson, Mario Redmond, Dylan Lam, and Michael G.
