Gary Leavelle Obituary

Gary Laine Leavelle was born on December 22, 1958, in Dallas, TX, to Sandra and Bill Leavelle. He grew up in Richardson, TX, with his brother, Glen.

Gary graduated from J.J. Pearce in 1977 and was a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '81. He met the love of his life, Lesa, at the bike shop where he worked. They fell in love, got engaged, and were married in 1986. His first child, Nichole, was born a year later, and his son, Laine, followed three years after that. He spent a few years with Lesa living his dream on acreage in North Carolina, where he raised chickens, grew vegetables, and kayaked, before ultimately moving back to Dallas to be closer to family.

He was a man of many hobbies, including playing music, learning new instruments, waterskiing, fishing and hunting, woodworking, smoking BBQ, playing ultimate frisbee and pickleball, riding bikes and motorcycles, DIY projects, cooking, road tripping, and taking nature photography — and he loved spending time with his grandson, Sterling. His early interest in computers led to a long career in IT. He was deeply involved with Community Bible Chapel, Center Church, and The Grove Community Church. His faith in Jesus brought him peace through the many physical challenges he faced over the years. He spent a great deal of time in the Word, was passionate about sharing his faith with others, and loved discipling men.

He passed away on July 20, 2026, surrounded by family, friends from the church, and wonderful Baylor University medical staff.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Leavelle; his mother-in-law, Mary Taylor; his fathers-in-law, Hap Taylor and Joe Davis; and several aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish lasting memories include his wife, Lesa Leavelle; his children, Nichole Clarke (née Leavelle) and Laine Leavelle; his son-in-law, Douglas Clarke; his grandson, Sterling Clarke; his daughter-in-law, Emily Leavelle; his mother, Sandra Leavelle; his brother, Glen Leavelle; his niece, Virginia Leavelle; and countless friends he made along the way.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
