Gerald, affectionately known by his family as Maurice, was born in Caldwell, Texas, due to an early arrival but was a resident of Dallas, Texas. He attended elementary and junior high school in Dallas before the family moved to Garland, Texas, where he graduated from North Garland High School in 1978.
Soon after graduation, he obtained his first job with the City of Garland, where he worked for several years. He then followed his passion for driving and became an over-the-road driver for many years. While driving, he met and married Donna Ashcraft. This union blessed Maurice and Donna with two sons, Trevor Daniel and Jeremiah Michael. To be more present in his sons' lives, he took a job driving for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), where he remained employed until his health began to decline.
At an early age, Maurice professed his love for Christ, his desire to study His word, and his commitment to walking in His will. He was baptized at Lavon Drive Baptist Church. Later in life, he was a member of and faithfully served at Family Cathedral of Praise. Maurice moved to Detroit, MI, and resided there for many years before his mother moved him back to Dallas in March of 2023. He was lovingly looked after and cared for by her, and she remained by his side until he departed this Earth.
