Gloria Jean Edwards-Blue was born to the late William R. Edwards, Sr. and Levata E. Townsel Edwards on January 5, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee. The oldest of nine children, she transitioned to eternity with her Lord on September 10, 2023.
Gloria worked for the Memphis Postal Service until she retired in 1994. She committed her life to Christ at an early age at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church and then attended Cummings Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board. In 1995, she relocated to Austin, Texas, and joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Seniors and Women"s Choir.
She decided to pursue her dream of going to college, graduating from Austin Community College with an Associate’s Degree. She continued her education at Huston-Tillotson College where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in 2008 at the age of 61. While at Huston-Tillotson, she was a runner-up in the Miss Huston-Tillotson Pageant. She relocated a final time to Dallas, Texas, where she attended North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship. There, she met her husband, Kenneth Blue, and they married in June 2013. She later joined Amity Bible Church and was a dedicated member until her death. She always greeted everyone with a hug and a beautiful smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Edwards and Byron Edwards; sisters - Cynthia Edwards, Christine Edwards, Earnestine Edwards, and Levata Edwards; and son, Michael Edwards.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Kenneth Blue; daughter, Sheila Edwards; stepson, Tyrrell A. Blue; brother, Robert Edwards; sister, Ada Adams; granddaughter, Tierra Jenkins (Eugene); grandson, DeAndre Crutchfield (Chrystal); great-grandsons, Orion Jenkins and Cameryn Jenkins; great-granddaughters, TaKaia Drake and Amaia Brown; nephews, Carlton Weathers (Whitney) and Myron Evans, Jr. (Tamra); niece, Maia Young; two aunts, Gwendolyn Quirley and Evonne McNeal (Paul); sister-in-law, Patrice Pennix (Frederick); brothers-in-law, Ronald Blue (Edna) and Jackson B. Blue; mother-in-law, Adelaide Blue; and a host of family and friends.
