Gracie Bradley Duffie passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, community, and loyalty. Born on March 18, 1946, in Ringgold, Louisiana, Gracie was a beacon of love, strength and wisdom throughout her life.
Gracie graduated from Hill High School in Henderson, Texas, as part of the Class of 1964. She began her career at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where she dedicated 43 years of her life. Starting as a candy striper, she worked her way through various roles in the hospital system, earning the prestigious CEO Award for her exceptional contributions.
In March 1964, Gracie married her high school sweetheart, Andrew Duffie. The two remained united until his untimely death in 1980. Gracie persevered to care and provide for her two sons, Darryl and Roderick, who were the center of her life. She was a devoted member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church for over 40 years, leading and serving in numerous ministries, including the Usher, Senior Saints, Bereavement, Grief, Benevolence, and Women's Ministries. After her retirement, she was a loyal member of the New Mount Zion Church Staff.
Her commitment to community extended beyond the church. Gracie was an active member and former president of the Ladies of Distinction Social Club, the State Congress of Christian Workers, and the Dallas Area Ushers, Nurses, Greeters and Safety organization. She also participated in the Hamilton Park Senior Group and the City of Dallas Senior Group, always eager to build community and lend a helping hand.
Gracie's life was marked by significant achievements, including receiving the CEO Award at Parkland Hospital. She was a travel enthusiast and an avid reader, and she enjoyed engaging in activities with senior community organizations. Most of all, she delighted in creating special memories with her family and friends.
Described by those who knew her as charismatic, resilient, loyal, straightforward, and adventurous, Gracie touched many lives with her vibrant spirit and fun-loving personality.
Gracie was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Duffie; her parents, Lula Mae Clay and J. B. Bradley; her mother-in-law, Lovell Duffie; her sister, Shirley Garland; and her brother, Eugene Clay.
Those left to cherish her love and legacy include her sons, Darryl Duffie (Gwen) and Roderick Duffie of Dallas, Texas; her sister, Leslie Fagan (Ellis) of Marshall, Texas; her granddaughters - Eboney Banks (Joshua) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dariya Duffie and Dalaney Duffie of Forney, Texas; her grandsons - Trenton Duffie of Dallas, Texas, Christian Taylor (Brittany) of Fort Worth, Texas and Christian Duffie of Houston, Texas; her great-grandchild; as well as a host of special relatives, friends, and community members. Gracie's legacy of love and friendship will continue to inspire all who knew her.
