Grover Emory Tyree was born on September 7, 1950, in Dallas, Texas. A much-loved husband, father, son, and brother, Grover passed away at his home in St. Paul, Texas, on July 5, 2018, at age 67. He bravely confronted both congestive heart and kidney failures.
Shortly after high school, Grover joined the US Army where he served from 1973 to 1980, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He bragged frequently of the days with his M-88, a job he enjoyed. He married Terri on July 16, 1994, and the two lived in Mesquite until 1998 before relocating to Kaufman County until 2013. Upon increasing illnesses, he returned to Garland for three years and moved along with his family in 2017 to St. Paul, Texas.
Grover’s passion for bowling began while serving his country in Germany. He was a patient instructor to his friends; he helped so many improve their sport. He had one goal - to complete 25 consecutive National Bowling Tournaments alongside his bowling buddies. That goal was achieved last year in Las Vegas! On a funnier note, he managed to lose his keys on one of the bowling trips, started a ruckus about them, later to find out that the joke was on him. The keys were found in his left shoe! Did we mention that he didn’t have a prosthetic foot yet? Yes, it was the left foot. A few years later, his eye hemorrhaged, yet he persevered thanks to the assistance of his good friend, Howard. He was able to complete his set, completely blind. It was quite a feat; he left the 1,2,4,10 split in one frame, picked it up, and finished with a 315 series, never having bowled without seeing any pins.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Terri Kim VanderMeulen Tyree of St. Paul, Texas; son, Kody Ryan Tyree of Garland, Texas; and brother, Glyn Dean Albright and his wife, Judy, of Benbrook, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Bell Tyree, and mother, Murline Bethel Tyree.
The last time I saw you,
You looked so bright and well,
Little did I know,
It was our last farewell.
