Hattie Geanes Obituary

Hattie Jane (Criswell) Geanes was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 16, 1946. Surrounded by her loving family, she gained her angel wings on May 6, 2024. A red cardinal appeared when she transitioned, signifying all is well.

Hattie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She moved to Oklahoma City and joined Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church where she served as a faithful usher for many years. She later moved to Frisco, Texas with her daughter and regularly attended New Mount Zion Baptist Church until her demise.

She attended school in Bartlett, Tennessee. Hattie was employed as part of the management team for Darden Corporation LLC for many years until her retirement. She was an exemplary manager and treated her guests and employees with the utmost respect.

Hattie met Sam Geanes, Jr. in Tennessee, and their courtship began. They were united in matrimony for over 50 years until her transition. Four children were born from this union.

Hattie enjoyed gardening and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Gammie.” Her family members in her hometown nicknamed her "Mookie". She enjoyed the simpler things in life. She was quiet and reserved but had a great sense of humor. Her laugh was contagious, and her smile with the gold tooth would light up the room. She was one of North Highlands' moms on N.W. 82nd Street in Oklahoma City where she took neighborhood kids skating and hosted slumber parties at her house. She was appreciative, grateful, faithful, giving, and caring, and she practiced God’s word through her daily life.

Hattie was a loving wife, an attentive mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family graciously!

Hattie was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanetta Criswell. Those left to cherish sweet memories include her husband, Sam Geanes, Jr.; her son, Sammie Geanes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her daughters -  Deborah Geanes of Oklahoma City, Sherrie Beck of Frisco, Texas, and Rhonda Geanes of Oklahoma City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Virginia Cash (Robert) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Robbie Cash (James) of Memphis, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A beautiful woman of God has left this earth, but God gained an even more beautiful angel! The song has ended, and the melody lingers on!
