Howard Calhoun Obituary

Howard Joe Calhoun was born on May 5, 1936, in Jefferson, Texas. He passed away on June 13, 2022, in Dallas, Texas

In 1957, Howard graduated from Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. He went on to enjoy a longtime career with UPS until his retirement in 2004.

His first granddaughter started the tradition of calling him "Dan Dan" (she was trying to say Grand-dad!). He was affectionately regarded by some friends and family as "HJ".

Among many hobbies, Howard loved collecting pecans from his pecan trees. He delighted in sharing them with friends and family, and he was truly grateful for the pecan pies his beloved wife, Betty, would bake for him. He also enjoyed sports - namely the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers - as well as western movies and Jurassic Park.

On July 12, 1959, Howard married the love of his life, Betty Jo Harris. Howard and Betty loved and nurtured three children: Cynthia, Tammy, and Craig. They remained united in matrimony for 62 years until her passing on November 19, 2020.

Howard dedicated his life to Jehovah by water baptism in 1963. He was truly devoted to his ministry, preaching and teaching everyone about Jehovah. He will be fondly remembered for his proud, spiritual, faithful, and loyal nature. His caring spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Howard was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jo (Harris) Calhoun; father, John Calhoun; mother, Edna (Feagins) Calhoun; sisters, Carolyn Gloade and Bunchie Calhoun.

Those left to cherish precious memories include his daughter, Cynthia Cox (Tyrone); daughter, Tammy Davis; son, Howard Craig Calhoun (Sonya); grandchildren - Antwaniqua Wilson (Anthony), DeMarquis Cox (Amanda), Tamara Maldonado (Luis), Taimon Turner (Cassandra), and Micaiah Calhoun; six great-grandchildren - Darel “DJ”, Tyson, Cynia, Valerie, Maddox, and Emily; siblings - Eddie Calhoun, Eleanor Jean Smith, Peggy Cox (Carol); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
