Jacqueline Ruth Simpson, fondly known as Jackie by all who loved her, passed away at her home in Plano, Texas, on January 9, 2025. A woman of unwavering loyalty, dedication, and commitment, Jackie left a profound impact on those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her warmth and kindness.
Jackie was born on November 16, 1949, in Laurel, Mississippi, to her late parents, Annie Ruth and Charles Curtis Simpson, Sr. They instilled in her values that would carry her through life—empathy, a strong sense of duty, and a selfless desire to help others. This foundation would inform Jackie's every step and define her enduring legacy.
She spent her formative years in Ellisville, Mississippi and completed her high school education at Roosevelt High School, where she laid the groundwork for a life of achievement . Her scholastic journey continued at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she studied Foods and Nutrition, merging her passion for nurturing others with her academic pursuits. After graduating from Southern, she attended Tuskegee University where she completed her requirements to become a Registered Dietitian.
In 1973, Jackie heeded the call to serve her country and entered the United States Navy as a Lieutenant JG. Her career took her across the globe, with postings in San Diego, California, Guam, Guantanamo Bay, and Washington, D.C. Jackie was not only a skilled professional but also a trailblazer for women in the military during a time of significant change. She rose through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant Commander in 1992.
After retiring from the Navy, Jackie transitioned into civilian life in Plano, where she continued to impact her community in transformative ways. Known for her warm hospitality and incredible cooking skills, Jackie found her home at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. As a dedicated member and Recording Secretary of the SHOUT Ministry, she delighted in creating welcoming environments and shared her love through fellowship and welcoming spirit. Her church family could always count on her to go the extra mile, whether planning events or providing support to community members in need.
Jackie's zest for life was perpetually evident through her favorite activities, which included traveling to new places, spending quality time with friends, immersing herself in church activities and caring for the family dogs, Nikko and Cody,
Jackie was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Curtis Simpson, Jr. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Gloria Jean Simpson, and Sandra Simpson Chiles; grand nephews, Charley Mitchell and Justin Mitchell; cherished grandnieces, Harmony Mitchell, Liberty Mitchell, and Heavenly Mitchell, as well as her grandnephews, Justin Mitchell II, James Mitchell, and Jackson Mitchell and a host of cousins and friends. Jackie's spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her.
