James Stephen Ross was born on November 17, 1957, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of three children born to Alfred Matthew Ross, Sr. and Ruth Deborah (Porter) Ross, joining his siblings, Alfred Jr. and Vickie. Stephen transitioned to eternity on January 16, 2024, in Waxahachie, Texas.
Affectionately regarded as "Stephen”, he graduated from Star Spencer High School in Spencer, Oklahoma in 1976. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Oklahoma (formerly Central State University) in 1982. Upon graduation, Stephen began his career working for the State of Oklahoma. From there, he worked for 10 years at Scrivner, Inc. He later joined Associated Wholesale Grocer (AWG) where he worked as an Information Technology Manager. Stephen retired after 28 years of dedicated service.
In 2009, Stephen met the love of his life, Belinda. The two married on April 14, 2012, and made their home in Ovilla, Texas. To their beautifully blended union, five children and their spouses and nine grandchildren were loved and nurtured.
Stephen accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful in his Christian journey throughout his life. He exuded a Christ-like love to everyone he encountered. Among many hobbies and interests, Stephen loved gardening, fishing, golfing, and football. He specifically enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys and was an avid OU Sooners fan who "bled crimson". After retirement, he developed a love for woodworking.
Stephen will be fondly remembered for his generous heart and strong nature. He dedicated himself to others. A loving son, amazing husband, and doting father and grandfather, Stephen was deeply compassionate and adored his family. A bridgebuilder who connected with all, Stephen's gentle and humble spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Ross, Sr. Those left to cherish precious and lasting memories include his devoted wife, Belinda Ross; his daughters, Valerie Brooke de los Santos (Miguel) and Ashley Dawn Ross; his bonus children - Marla Smith (Raphael), David Darty (Elke), and Jared Darty (Sara); his nine grandchildren; his mother, Ruth Mansfield (Luther); his brother, Alfred Ross, Jr. (Pam); his sister, Vickie Decuir; his bonus sister, Desiree Nichols (James); his parents-in-love, Max G.
