Jimmie Lee Metcalf, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2024, at the age of 76. Born Jimmie Lee Carson on November 28, 1947, in Oak Ridge, Louisiana, she was the cherished daughter of Jimmie Carson and Everlena Carson (née Armstrong).
Jimmie married the love of her life, Urshel Lee Metcalf, Sr., on July 20, 1966, and together, they built a life filled with love and devotion until his passing on January 11, 1992. They were blessed with three sons: Gregory Lynn Metcalf, Anthony DeWayne Metcalf, and Urshel Lee Metcalf, Jr.
A dedicated professional, Jimmie spent most of her career in accounting and bookkeeping, but her entrepreneurial spirit led her to explore various ventures. Her remarkable culinary skills and creativity gave rise to her catering and event planning business, along with the beloved soup and sandwich shop, Manna House.
Jimmie's generosity and warmth were hallmarks of her character. She opened her heart and home to friends, relatives, and anyone in need of new opportunities. Her gifts of creativity and hospitality allowed her to serve numerous churches, where she was deeply involved in mentoring, teaching, and supporting women in their spiritual growth. Her influence was felt in many congregations, including St. Fredericks Baptist Church, Hicks Chapel, North Park Missionary Baptist Church, North Garland Baptist Fellowship, and later, the Mom's of Preschoolers ministry at River of Life Church in North Carolina, even as her physical abilities became limited.
Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband, Urshel Lee Metcalf Sr.; her parents, her eldest son, Gregory; her brothers, Donald and Kenneth, and her sisters, Dorothy and Elizabeth.
Jimmie is survived by her loving sons, Anthony DeWayne Metcalf (Kim) and Urshel Lee Metcalf, Jr.; her devoted daughter-in-love, Brenda Metcalf; and her treasured grandchildren - Autris Moore, Joslyn Blocker, Jonathan Metcalf, Keira Davis, Phylicia Metcalf (whom she raised from a baby), Darion Metcalf, Faith Metcalf, Matthew Metcalf, Ayden Metcalf, Kyndal Metcalf, Demetric Jackson, Christina Metcalf, Danielle Metcalf, Harper Isenhart, and Urshel Lee Metcalf III. She is also survived by her sister, Imogene Williams; her brother, Sam Carson; her sister-in-law Constance Carson (wife of Kenneth) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her favorite passage of scripture was Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God," which epitomized the essence of her pure and loving spirit.
Jimmie Lee Metcalf will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, generosity, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
