JoAnn (Harmon) Grayson

July 22, 1948 ~ May 13, 2023 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Obituary

JoAnn (Harmon) Grayson was born on July 22, 1948, to the late John Harmon & Louise Harmon in Sallis, Mississippi. Raised in a God-fearing home, she was the 2nd of 10 children.

JoAnn attended Long Creek High School in Sallis, Mississippi. After her schooling, she met and married Leon Grayson. In 1967, the two united in marriage, and their union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. The family became members of Durant Training Center in Durant, Mississippi, where JoAnn served as an usher. It was during this time that she was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost during a Tent Revival led by Evangelist Sam Sallis.

JoAnn began her career as a seamstress while working for a sportswear company in Durant. She continued that career field even after she and her family moved from Durant, Mississippi, to Tyler, Texas, on Christmas Eve of 1985. Shortly after relocating to Tyler, JoAnn met a woman of God, Sister Francis Tave, who was a member of Waters Temple COGIC. What a blessing! Sister Tave invited the family to church, and the church family welcomed them with open arms. The family joined the church under the leadership of the late Pastor Joel Waters. She continued to do what she loved - serving others as an usher. She was President of the Usher Board at Waters Temple COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent Ricky Johnson, and she served faithfully until her health declined. She also served in the 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under Brother Langley.

She later moved to Dallas, Texas, and attended Refreshing Springs COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent Gerald Jones, Sr. She was also a frequent visitor of Greater Davis Chapel COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Jacoby Chalk in Garland, Texas.

JoAnn's favorite hobby was gardening; she especially loved ivory plants. No one could care for a garden and plants as she could.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Myron Grayson; father, John Harmon; mother, Louise Harmon; sister, Linda Harmon; and brother, Rufus Harmon.

Those left to cherish precious memories and continue her legacy of love include her son, Cedrick Grayson, Sr. (Rita) of Garland, Texas; son, Vinceson Grayson (Tammy) of Tyler, Texas; daughter, LaTanya Tyner (Anthony) of Lancaster, Texas; son, Kevin Grayson (Betty) of Plano, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers - Billy Harmon of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Clinton Harmon (Gloria) of Goodman, Mississippi, Curtis Harmon (Rosia) of Tyler, Texas, and Clarence Harmon (Cynthia) of Tyler, Texas; 3 sisters - Sara Harmon of Rockford, Illinois, and Willie Harmon and Glenda Harmon of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
