Joe Joseph Mathis was born on August 10, 1940, in Maud, Texas to the parentage of Joe Mathis, Sr. and Doris Murphy. Surrounded by his lovely family, he transitioned to eternity with his Lord on January 6, 2021, in Garland, Texas.
Affectionately regarded as "Joe Man", Joe voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve and proudly served his country until he received an Honorable Discharge. He later became an entrepreneur and worked as a welder until his health declined.
He enjoyed fishing and racing cars on dirt tracks. Joe was known for his loving, resourceful, determined, and strong nature. Joe attended North Lake Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. John D. Carl in Garland, Texas, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Mathis, Sr. and Doris Murphy; brothers, John Mathis and Floyd Mathis; and sisters, Mary Bennett and Telythia Mathis.
Those left to cherish fond memories include his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra Mathis; children: Carver Mathis (Brittney), Johnny Whearley, and Shelley Hanson (Sean); 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Goldie Mae Horn; and host of other relatives and friends.
