Josephine Middelraad was born to Juan Ramirez and Paulina Casarez on September 18, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas. Josie passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in Garland, Texas.
Josephine, affectionately known as "Josie" to all her family and friends, was expressive, tenacious, passionate, independent, relentless, determined, and fearless.
At the tender age of 18, she left San Antonio and moved to Houston where she attended classes at the University of Houston. She began doing office administration work in the city before joining the U.S. Postal Service. Later in life, she obtained her real estate broker’s license and operated her own office.
Josephine was an avid book reader who enjoyed travel, needlepoint, history, and politics. She especially adored her dogs and had many pets throughout her life.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Henk Middelraad, and her brothers, Juan “Johnny” Ramirez and Tony Ramirez.
Those left to cherish precious memories include her sons - Paul Lopez and wife Cecilia, and Benjamin; her grandchildren - Laura Pelini and husband Josh, Lisa Thomas and husband Kurt, Leslie Melton and husband Jonathan, Pavia Justinian and husband Shanachie, Roland Middelraad and wife Penny, Romi Blalock, and Sven Middelraad; her great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose Pelini; her great-grandson, Emerson Patrick Melton; her sister, Mary Helen Flores; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
